An Introduction to IFS

A live, experiential learning experience for therapists and helping professionals.

Internal Family Systems (IFS): A Foundational Course

Many therapists and helping professionals are drawn to IFS not in search of another technique, but because something in the model resonates — a non-pathologizing lens, a felt sense that this approach is pointing toward something important.

Whether you are new to IFS or seeking greater clarity in the foundations of the model, this course offers an experiential introduction to the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model for professionals who want time to slow down, observe the model in action, and develop a grounded understanding of how it works.

Through live teaching, demonstrations, and guided experiential learning, participants orient to the foundations of IFS, gain clarity in the language of parts work, deepen their understanding of the model and its impact.

This course is an independent educational offering and is not intended as a substitute for IFS Institute Level 1 training.

This Introduction to IFS is for you if you want to:

Build a Strong Conceptual Framework: Develop a clear understanding of the core principles of IFS and how the model conceptualizes internal systems.

Deepen Self-Awareness: Explore your own internal system to move beyond intellectual understanding and gain a felt sense of how IFS works experientially.

Develop Key IFS Skills: Participate in guided experiential exercises and demonstrations that introduce how parts are identified, related to, and approached with curiosity and care within the IFS framework.

I wanted to learn more about IFS because as a therapist, I noticed I was already speaking in "parts language", like "part of me wants to scream and the other part wants to cry". I chose Inner World Collective because Trevor and Lorri are so knowledgeable and their Into to IFS was experiential and affordable. The Intro to IFS course gave me access to experience their Inner World Collective which is amazing and packed with resources.

I had done numerous online IFS trainings and read "Internal Family Systems" and "No Bad Parts", before I took this Intro to IFS with Lorri and Trevor and this training helped put it all together for me, which provided a greater sense of confidence in my role as a therapist. The trainers created an atmosphere of genuine care and support, which made learning feel safe and engaging.

What is IFS?

Do You Ever Pause to Notice the Voice in Your Head?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a powerful, evidence-based therapeutic approach that helps us understand and work with the many "parts" or sub-personalities that exist within our minds. These parts often emerge as protective mechanisms, shaped by life experiences, to help us survive and adapt.

However, these parts can sometimes find themselves in conflict—with each other and with our core Self. In IFS, the Self represents the confident, compassionate, and whole essence at the center of every individual.

The IFS model focuses on healing wounded parts and fostering harmony within the internal system by shifting the dynamics that create discord. It invites curiosity and care, offering space for internal differentiation, integration, and ultimately, wholeness. In IFS, all parts are welcome.
